With notes of cherry, liquorice and plum, this washed red bourbon from Gasaka in Rwanda really showcases the class of coffee from the region, along with the importance of women in the coffee industry.
This bourbon has been processed at Epiphanie Mukashyaka’s washing station, Buf Café, in Remera. Epiphanie established Buf Café in 2003, following the tragic 1994 genocide which saw 800,000 people die and left Epiphanie a widow.
In the years that followed Epiphanie rebuilt her coffee farm with the help of the community and developed a thriving coffee community. Today, she owns three washing stations, which mainly employ female workers, and has helped the Rwandan coffee sector switch focus from quantity to quality, earning higher prices for producers.
