With notes of apricot, blackberry and molasses, this coffee is a dream for both espresso and filter brew methods and has been produced by Iyenga AMCOS, a cooperative of farmers in the Mbeya region of Tanzania.
All of the farmers in Iyenga village (from which most of the cooperative members live) are small scale and grow coffee on 5 hectares or fewer. In addition, many grow maize, peanuts and beans, along with keeping a cow or two and poultry.
Iyenga cooperative members adopt best agricultural practices to ensure the soil remains fertile. These practices include preventing soil erosion through dual cropping, using mulching materials and applying compost on a regular basis at optimal times. Farmers tend to use manure from their own cows and composted coffee pulp.
